Microneedling is an advanced skin rejuvenation treatment that can improve skin appearance with minimal downtime. Also known as collagen replacement therapy, the Microneedling process includes the formation of microscopic channels through the skin’s surface, which leads to the production of new tissue and discharges the skin’s natural growth factors to promote the healing and repair of scarring and lightening of hyperpigmentation. The addition of platelet-rich plasma () to your treatment will enhance this process.

The treatment creates minor skin injury unleashing the skin’s natural healing mechanism of new elastin and collagen fiber production. This process will thicken the skin and diminish the presence of stretch marks, sun damage, acne scarring and wrinkles.

Microneedling Procedure

As we use 3 passes of the Micropen to penetrate the skin with precision and control. You may feel a slight sensation; or with deeper penetration, the sensation will feel more like pinching.

After the formation of micro-channels, we apply a topical serum or PRP if you chose to add this to your treatment. This treatment may be a growth factor or an antioxidant depending on the severity of the patient’s skin condition. The unique vertical penetration of Microneedling creates ideal pathways for deep penetration of the nutrient-rich anti-aging and skin repair treatments.

After Microneedling treatment, the skin will begin to heal the microchannels naturally by elastin and collagen production; resulting in a young, firm, and smooth skin presence. You may notice a slight pink hue to the skin similar to a mild sunburn. Also, your skin may feel a bit tight and dry. These effects should subside within a day or two after treatment.

When a series of Microneedling are done the results can be similar to a mild laser treatment such as Clear & Brilliant but without the downtime, redness, and associated costs.

Optimal results can be realized with multiple Microneedling treatment sessions, with four to six sessions two weeks apart to treat fine lines, texture and we recommend maintenance sessions every three months to maintain fresher looking skin.

Microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) Microneedling has generated a lot of attention recently due to celebrities like Kim Kardashian expressing devotion to the treatment. Because Microneedling with PRP uses your blood, the Vampire Facelift became a popular moniker in the mainstream media. PRP is often used for aesthetic application to improve skin texture and tone, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, and increase collagen production.

PRP is your own blood that has been spun down to the enriched platelets. This concentrated source of platelets includes growth factors that encourage the skin to self-heal and stimulate new cell generation. When added to a Microneedling treatment, PRP is delivered deep into the underlying skin tissues where it promotes new collagen growth, diminishes the presence of scars, smooths wrinkles and tightens the skin.

FAQs for Microneedling

How do you get PRP for Microneedling treatment?

Just like drawing blood at the doctor’s office, we use a tiny needle to extract a small amount of your blood. Then, we place the blood in a special centrifuge to separate its components and capture the PRP.

Is adding PRP to the Microneedling treatment safe?

Yes, because the PRP is from your blood. There are no rejection risks, and the growth factors will help heal your skin condition naturally, without introducing synthetic components.

How does Microneedling compare to laser skin resurfacing?

Both Microneedling and laser skin resurfacing use tiny channels or wounds deep in the underlying skin tissues to trigger the natural healing process of elastin and collagen regeneration. The big difference is Microneedling is more cost effective.

Does Microneedling work with patients who have dark skin tones?

Not only is Microneedling an ideal treatment for patients with dark skin tones, but it also reduces the risk of post-treatment hyperpigmentation. This risk is common with laser skin resurfacing on dark skin complexions.
